Your first visit

During your first visit at Davies Chiropractic, you'll need to give us some information about your background, medical history and the nature of your condition. This is so that we can provide the best possible care, tailored to your specific circumstances.

A bit of paperwork

We'll have some brief paperwork for you to fill in on your first visit. This paperwork provides us with general information about you and your condition.

During your first consultation with the chiropractor, you'll discuss any health-related issues and concerns. You'll also learn about potential treatment options.

History and examination

In order to pinpoint your problem, the doctor will ask you a number of questions related to your condition. A variety of targeted tests will be performed to determine which tissues are affected and to what extent.

Your specific condition may require us to take X-rays either to rule out more serious conditions or to assist us in assessing the most effective treatment plan for you.  However, we require x-rays very rarely.

Report of Findings

Patients are provided with a complete review of findings. Treatment options for your condition are also discussed at this time.

Same-day treatment

Once the examination is complete, patients will generally have their first treatment during this same visit.

Home instructions

Before leaving, you'll be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be carried out at home. This may include ice or heat applications, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises.

Scheduling the next appointment

Regular treatment is essential to the process. We arrange our treatments around your schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have x-rays taken?

We use x-rays to see the joints and to reveal information not accessible by other means only in a few cases. If you have had x-rays or scans at a local hospital, we will go and examine the pictures; alternatively, we can arrange to have you x-rayed at a nearby centre. Diagnostic imaging assists us in formulating the best treatment approach to secure the shortest and safest way to reach a full recovery.

Is chiropractic treatment painful?

Our main form of treatment is manipulation by chiropractic adjustments. This is directed at the offending or restricted joint which is gently pushed into normal movement. The adjustment is carried out swiftly and carefully with the minimum amount of discomfort as we find the more comfortable the treatment, the quicker the recovery. Most people find the treatment pleasant. Your treatment programme will be tailored to your needs. As a general rule, the more recent the problem, the quicker the recovery which could take only three or four visits. Longer-term problems will take longer to improve, may be eight to ten visits and will most often require and benefit from regular check-ups at two to four monthly intervals. Whatever your problem, you can be assured that the practitioners at Davies Chiropractic will always advise you on the best way to manage your problem, from the chiropractic treatment to a suitable exercise routine tailored for your use. Other advice on lifestyle will also be given as appropriate.

Will my General Practitioner be informed?

Should we find any problem that requires a different approach, you will be referred back to your General Practitioner. For this reason we find that keeping your G.P. informed of your visit to Davies Chiropractic helps you in the long-term so that he can refer you back to us if necessary. If you do not wish your GP to know, you can answer the relevant questions accordingly on the form that you fill in at your first attendance.
